Collection Notes: Obtain specimen by using a sterile culturette collection swab. Rub the swab over the tonsillar area and/or posterior pharynx taking care to avoid the tongue and uvula. Indicate source of specimen on requisition.
Clinical Utility: This culture is used to isolate and identify Group A, Group C and Group G Streptococcus, which are the causative agents of acute bacterial pharyngitis.
