Collection Notes: Serum separator tubes (SST) are not acceptable. Draw blood in a red top (gel free) tube. Draw “upright” samples at least ½ hours after patient has been sitting up.
Clinical Utility: Serum aldosterone is useful to evaluate patients with difficult-to-control blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension and certain fluid and electrolyte disorders.
