Collection Notes: Do not use alcohol solutions as a skin preparation for drawing the specimen. Non-alcohol solutions such as Betadine® or Zephiran® MUST be used. Keep specimen tightly capped. Prevent exposure to atmosphere. Do not use serum separator tubes (SST).
Clinical Utility: Ethyl alcohol measurement is used to diagnose and treat alcohol dependency, and to detect alcohol poisoning.
